Holes for Heroes originally started in San Diego, which was home to the largest combined military complex in the US. Over the past four years, Holes for Heroes has netted over $285,000 for military serving charities and other humanitarian projects. In the Las Vegas area, Nellis Air Force Base is home to the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, the largest and most demanding advanced air combat training mission in the world. At Nellis, they provide training for composite strike forces which include every type of aircraft in the Air Force inventory. Training is conducted in conjunction with air and ground units of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and air forces from our allied nations. The crews do not come to learn how to fly, but instead how to be the best combat aviators in the world. As a result, our region experiences more of the pain resulting from combat fatalities, wounded Heroes and the resulting stress to the families of our deployed military. Holes for Heroes is a trusted opportunity for our community to show its support for and say 'Thank you' to our local wounded Heroes, deployed troops, children and families of deployed troops, KIAs and homeless Veterans by:
- supporting the needs of front line deployed troops, our local military families and the children of deployed warriors via Operation CareGiver
- remembering the children and families of our Fallen Heroes via Guide On
- supporting Humanitarian Projects via The Las Vegas Rotary Club Foundation.
Holes for Heroes is recognized as one of the most deserving, rewarding and visible Military Fundraisers: Some 70 Wounded and Combat Veteran Heroes have attended other Holes for Heroes events providing the opportunity for the participants and community at large the unique opportunity to say "THANK YOU!" – up close and personal. Many are amputees and two (2) Heroes have been nominated for Medal of Honor!
In the words of a Wounded Hero (a USA double leg amputee), "It's therapeutic, it's fun, it's motivational. It's everything as good as it can be!"
And from our beneficiary GUIDE-ON, (serving children of KIAs) "Every time I get a call from a widow it is so hard, but this was worse …. I served with this KIA. He only got to spend 4 weeks with his youngest son. But because of your support…we are not in this alone. Please pass along my sincerest gratitude."
And from one of our sponsors / participants, "It is such a reality check to meet and honor these young people who have given so much, yet have a lifetime of contributions to life ahead of them. Thank you for introducing us to this fine event."
And from the community, "You've got a great thing going!" |
